Seven Mile Post, established in 2019 by Holly, Trevor, John, and Kim, has a name steeped in local history. Unless you’ve been around for decades, you might be surprised to learn about the railroad tracks that once ran parallel to Market Street.

Back in the day, heading north into what we now call Ogden meant driving along a two-lane road flanked by dense woods, with the occasional house and a few intersections featuring gas stations, grocery stores, and motels. It was a classic country road, and up until the 1980s, a bustling railroad ran alongside it, connecting Wilmington and New Bern.

The railway had small stops every 3-4 miles, including two in Ogden. One stop was at Gordon Road, known as “Baymeade,” named after the plantation. The other was at Middle Sound Road, aptly named “Seven Mile Post.” We proudly display this piece of history in our Wilmington bar window for all to enjoy and connect with the roots of our community.
